Rick Ross Praises Tupac At 40th Celebration

Rap Daily:Rapper Rick Ross expressed his love for Tupac Shakur at a birthday celebration in Stone Mountain, GA, stating the rapper was a unique role model for a generation that looked up to the deceased star.

The event, held at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation (TASF) for a 40th birthday celebration for Tupac,  featured Meek Mill, Bun B, Warren G, Too Short, jazz singer/producer Roy Ayers and Erykah Badu.

"For a lot of lil' dudes in a single parent home [like me] with my mother, Tupac played father for a lot of dudes like me," Rick Ross said to the crowd at the event. "Tupac was the first one that showed me how to be fully committed. I took [aspect of him like] his [loyalty], to his hard work, his ethic, his family with me."

The Miami rapper also stressed the impact Tupac has had on the youth growing up.

Ross continued, "When we talk about his record sales, let's not forget the role he played to all the little Black boys around the world."

Erykah Badu also commented on Tupac at the gala.
"My first reaction to Tupac was he's not a rapper, he's not an actor, he's a savior of sorts. But he came at a time when people weren't looking for a savior, they were looking for someone who looked like them," she said. "But saviors, sometimes are just doing the work, they are just doing their job."

Then, the eccentric singer proceeded to speak, then sing a song, "Soldier," in dedication to Afeni Shakur.

During her performance, Badu's microphone audio was cut, for reason unknown, causing some confusion.  "I want this to end the way it was meant, with peace," Badu concluded with a raised fist.

Comedian Mike Epps served as the Master of Ceremonies and he also presented Afeni Shakur with a $10,000 check for TASF. About 500 people attended the celebration.

Rap Daily: The Teflon Don and Wale shared that some listeners don't even know who Tupac is.
Rick Ross scored another smash with his feature onMeek Mill’s “Tupac Back,”  paying homage to the fallen legend. The Maybach Music Group leader explained that the record was made as a tribute to ‘Pac and the impact he had on the game.

Sitting in the studio, a lot of times I think of different approaches and I think of different artists and that’s what the vibe was of that record,” Ross told MTV2’s Sucker Free. “Tupac was such a huge influence on the musical level as well as outside of music. A lot of times, I be thinking if Pac was alive, he’d be in politics now.”
MMG member Wale added that the younger generation might not know about his legacy unless they do their research. “It’s been 15, 16 years since he died. That means if you’re 20, you really don’t connect unless you do your history,” he said.

We put the record out, I was surprised how many people was asking, who is Tupac? On Twitter, on the blog, who is Tupac?” he said. “There are some people that the only people that they familiar with is Wayne and newer,” said Wale. “That’s it. Not evenBlock is Hot Wayne.”

Rick Ross to Walk Out with Manny Pacquiao for Shane Mosley Fight

Rap Daily: Manny Pacquaio will show solidarity with Hip-Hop culture by having Miami emcee Rick Ross walk him to the ring for his May 7 showdown with Shane Mosley.

Ross confirmed the news yesterday via his Twitter account.

Both men became acquainted with each other after participating in Nike’s 2010 ”Boom” commercial campaign.

Last week, Pacquiao’s lifelong friend and assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez endorsed Ross’ Maybach Music brand via a Youtube video.

Ross has engaged in public feuds with both Floyd Mayweather, Pacquiao’s main rival, and Mayweather’s close friend 50 Cent over perceived slights in Ross’ “Mafia Music.”

50 has publicly supported Mayweather in several fights, most notably accompanying him to the ring for his record-breaking 2007 showdown with Oscar De La Hoya.

High-profile boxers have sought out rap figures to enhance their ring walks since the mid 90′s, including Naseem Hamed (Diddy), Roy Jones Jr (Method Man and Redman), Cory Spinks (Nelly) and Mike Tyson (Tupac Shakur).

May 7 will mark the first time Pacquiao has done a ring walk with a rapper.

At press time, neither Pacquiao nor Ross have disclosed what music will be used.

THE REAL RICK ROSS!

The real Rick Ross says that his legal battle with his rappin' namesake is far from over, and that his forthcoming biopic will be "the black Godfather."
Rick Donnell Ross, the man who bares the unfortunate title of having been the "kingpin of crack" during the 1980s, is currently having trouble convincing some people that he is even who he says he is. When a new generation hears the name “Rick Ross” they instantly think of a rotund rapper from Miami, and not the diminutive drug dealer from Los Angeles. The South Central native, who acquired his nickname “Freeway” from the collection of properties he owned at one time near the Harbor Freeway, is fighting to reclaim the name he made simultaneously infamous and illustrious while running an enormous empire that stretched from California to Cincinnati.   the recent dismissal a
his lawsuit against rapper rick ross does not signal the end of his quest to let the world know who “the real Rick Ross” is, (but that he would consider calling off his legal hounds if his rappin’ namesake will just “tell everybody that he really wanted to be me”).
Having spent almost the entirety of the ‘90s and ‘00s behind bars, Ross also revealed what contact he had with the then burgeoning Hip Hop scene in Los Angeles during the ‘80s, and how he “coulda been Eazy-E back then, with money” if not for a former business partner of Dr. Dre telling him to “leave Rap alone.”
And maybe most notably, the man who once made tens of millions of dollars monthly while pushing up to 100 kilos of cocaine weekly (courtesy of a C.I.A.-sponsored connect who was “fundraising” on behalf of the Reagan administration-backed Nicaraguan Contras) revealed how his jaw-dropping life story (first revealed in part to the masses by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gary Webb) is shaping up to become one of the most impressive biopics ever made.
